As Christmas 2022 fast approaches, why not take a look through our collection of the Cork Holly Bough periodical. Bound copies of the Holly Bough from 1947 onwards can be viewed in our local studies library. You can also view editions published as far back as 1924 through the Irish Newspaper Archive, which can be freely accessed from our library PCs by library members.
Trace the development of Patrick Street’s commercial and social life through fascinating advertisements and pictures. Holly Bough also has a lot to offer anyone with an interest in local history, with excellent articles on all aspects of Cork’s history. Included in this year’s edition are accounts of a German warplane crash landing in Belgooly in 1941, Brendan Behan’s 1960 visit to Cobh and the tragic death of Kay Feehely during a Civil War era bombing in Cork city.
