The Local Studies Library has an extensive collection of material relating to the history and heritage of Cork. In some instances, the Local Studies copy is the only available in Cork or indeed Ireland. The advent of digitization has enabled us to provide access to digital copies of this unique material on our website.

This can be of benefit to researchers and interested members of the public who might not be able to travel to our library to view it in person. One such book is the Clonmel (Old Church) Cobh 1698-1984, a comprehensive listing of over ten thousand burials and inscriptions dating from the earliest inscription in 1698.

The information was gathered by a dedicated team working on a Cobh Youth Employment Project in the 1980s.  The fascinating list of names includes victims of the Lusitania sinking, World War I casualties as well as a diverse cross section of lives connected with the town of Cobh and its long naval history.
